How does it work?

Hold Me Tight® Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love

This Hold Me Tight® Couples Retreat, and Relationship Enhancement Workshop was developed by Dr. Sue Johnson and is designed around seven conversations based on the Hold Me Tight book, all of which have been shown to be essential to successful relations.

Hold Me Tight® is a registered trademark to Sue Johnson

You will learn how to understand and improve your relationship through presentations by the workshop leaders, private exercises and conversations with your partner, watching video demonstrations, experiential exercises, AND working as a couple with Dalia and Owen, two experienced master therapists who have led so many couples through this unique journey.

Though in my psychotherapy busy private practice, couples grow, heal, re-pair, and deepen their connection, there is something different that happens when you take a weekend, to get into your deeper, at times, harder conversations.

In a safe space create an safe container for the emotional intimacy you desire. In a safe safe, loving, nurturing space, you will unpack your relationship and learn about what are the forces that keep you separate and apart.

With the workshop’s strong, safe, and well designed and practiced structure, you will be able to open up to your partner, and to your relationship, and together you two will explore and understand the barriers to the love, care, intimacy, and sexual  sacredness, you once shared, and you both long for.

Though no prior therapy is required, couples who do some private therapy sessions before the workshop and then some follow up sessions after the workshop have the opportunity to integrate the work we do at the workshop.

This is not group therapy – so how does an intensive couples relationship retreat work?

This is not a group therapy, though we meet as a group, all your couple work is done in the privacy of your intimate and private bond.  You and your partner will have time to work on your relationship as a couple.

We meet in a group to learn, to watch some presentations, relationship and communication education, we will have fun and play, and have some experiential exercises, bonding, and rituals.

But when it is time for the two you to work and talk about your relationship, we have lots of beautiful grounds at our retreat center, to meet.

Owen and Dalia will be sitting with each of the couples with lots of time for personal work as we go through the weekend.

Is this for us? Who Should Come?

We do not screen our participants, we have couples who give the workshop as a 50th wedding anniversary gift, couples who had just discovered a breach of trust in their relationship, Newly weds, couples making a last ditch effort before heading to separation, and couples that just want more out of their relationship, couples who make it a yearly rituals to enrich their marriage..

  • young, middle aged and older couples
  • newly weds
  • couples early in relationship
  • couples in long term relationship
  • couples in second marriages/blended families
  • same-sex couples
  • couples in therapy or never in therapy
  • you and your partner…

Here is what others are saying about their experience in the workshop:

Here are some TESTIMONIALS from our workshop:

Heather, a therapist, and her husband who took our workshop wrote to us: “My husband & I just returned from the HMT workshop. Dalia & Owen definitely have the incredible (secret) gift in strengthening relationships from all ages & stages. My husband & I grew more this weekend than we have in 20 years of marriage. It’s like couples therapy on steroids. My husband was able learn about & experience the life changing benefits of being vulnerable. We discovered what negative pattern(s) we get into that keep us disconnected & trigger our “issues” rather than help move us towards growth, healing & connection. They make it easy to find & understand our “raw spots” without shame or judgement. Thank you Dalia & Owen for your labor of love & dedication to this important life changing work!”

“I wanted to send you a heartfelt thank you for leading such a powerful workshop and for being so generous and attentive with your time and expertise. We both left the weekend with powerful tools and lessons that we hope to apply to our lives and to help heal our injuries and save our marriage. It truly was a one of a kind experience that I will not forget. Thank you both so much!!❤️

“I’m a doctor of psychology, with over two decades of experience; Dalia is warm, caring, generous, transparent, enthusiastic, and committed in both her workshops and couples’ counseling sessions. Her passion and dedication reveal that helping people is truly her heart and soul’s work. I’m fortunate that a friend connected us and I was able to attend her “Hold Me Tight” workshop.

What Is Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT)?

The message of EFT is simple: Forget about learning how to argue better, analyzing your early childhood, making grand romantic gestures, or experimenting with new sexual positions. Instead, recognize and admit that you are emotionally attached to and dependent on your partner in much the same way that a child is on a parent for nurturing, soothing, and protection. EFT focuses on creating and strengthening this emotional bond by identifying and transforming the key moments that foster an adult loving relationship.

• EFT has an astounding 70 – 75% success rate and results have been shown to last, even in the face of significant stress.
• EFT is recognized by the American Psychological Association as empirically proven.

What Happens in the workshop:

How Do We Know If We Found The ‘One’..Hold Me Tight presents a streamlined version of EFT. It walks the reader through seven conversations that capture the defining moments in a love relationship and instructs how to shape these moments to create a secure and lasting bond. Case histories and exercises in each conversation bring the lessons of EFT to life.

At our This Hold Me Tight®  relationship enhancement Workshop – You will learn and experience how to:
• Affirm strengths in your relationship by developing understanding and bonding.
• Address negative cycle patterns, and learn why they show up, and how to get out of them.
• Learn how to repair and forgive injuries, and become vulnerable with each other.
• Enhance your emotional, physical, and sexual closeness and INTIMACY.

We will go through Seven Transforming Conversations:

Recognizing Demon Dialogues—In this first conversation, couples identify negative and destructive remarks in order to get to the root of the problem and figure out what each other is really trying to say.

Finding the Raw Spots—Here, each partner learns to look beyond immediate, impulsive reactions to figure out what raw spots are being hit.

Revisiting a Rocky Moment—This conversation provides a platform for de-escalating conflict and repairing rifts in a relationship and building emotional safety.

Hold Me Tight—The heart of the program: this conversation moves partners into being more accessible, emotionally responsive, and deeply engaged with each other.

Forgiving Injuries—Injuries may be forgiven but they never disappear. Instead, they need to become integrated into couples’ conversations as demonstrations of renewal and connection. Knowing how to find and offer forgiveness empowers couples to strengthen their bond.

Bonding Through Sex and Touch—Here, couples find how emotional connection creates great sex, and good sex creates deeper emotional connection.

Keeping Your Love Alive—This last conversation is built on the understanding that love is a continual process of losing and finding emotional connection; it asks couples to be deliberate and mindful about maintaining connection.”

Don’t miss this unique opportunity that helped many couples find the way back to a secure connected romantic intimate relationship.

About workshop leaders, Dalia and Owen:

Dalia Anderman, MFTDalia Anderman LMFT, is a Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Northern California with offices in Nevada City, and Sacramento.  Dalia has over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of issues.

Over the past 10 years, Dalia’s primary clinical modality has been Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). She has had advance training in EFT including attending many of Sue Johnson’s trainings. Sue Johnson is the creator of EFT.

Dalia’s passion lies in the map and tools that this attachment-based system has given us to help couples discover that the secret to their relationship is not in the solving of the ‘argument of the day’ but in understanding the longing and desperation when our connection to our loved ones is severed.

Dalia has helped numerous couples find their way back to connection, intimacy, vulnerability, and sexual desire.

Dalia has been leading, teaching, and facilitating the Hold Me Tight® couples workshop program nationally and internationally for over 5 years including in Israel, South Africa, and around the United States.

Keeping the Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop group small, Dalia developed an intimate and experiential format to the workshop, allowing couples to dive deeper into their relationship.

Though working with couples is her main passion and focus, Dalia is also fully trained and specializes in EMDR, CBT, Family Systems, trauma, addiction, parenting, sexual and intimacy issues, and life’s transitions. She is also on the Mental Health medical team at Burning Man.

Owen Marcus MA,  developed a new model for men’s groups and coaching from working with men over 25 years. He saw that our struggle is not that we are screwed up, it’s that we were never trained how to succeed emotionally as a man. Our relationships and careers suffer because our emotions are anything but our superpower. Owen’s approach is to facilitate deep change quickly and have it continue to develop.

His book Grow Up: A Man’s Guide to Masculine Emotional Intelligence lays out how a man can develop any of the nine stages he may never have an opportunity to cultivate. His leadership trainings for men and businesses transform emotional limitation into relationship mastery.

His work with couples comes from teaching himself that to have a nourishing relationship we need to connect and to connect we need to open up. For many of us, we were never given good models let alone tools on how to do these simple tasks.

As a co-founder of Evryman, he develops and leads trainings throughout the world that give me a safe place to develop the skills that were not taught to us. He believes men can flourish in all their relationships—there are thousands of men who would agree.

We keep the groups small and intimate, sign up ASAP, all of our previous workshops have been Sold-Out!
